Sunshine and Lemonade

The weather has been absolutely perfect this past week! Sunny skies, warm temps, and cool breezes have me thinking summer! Pools are open and grilling season has begun! I can’t think of anything better than lounging on my patio, relaxing, and enjoying a glass of cool, fresh-squeezed lemonade!

Lemonade is one of the most popular Summertime refreshments, a staple at many picnics, fairs, and road-side stands. It’s also surprisingly simple to make! Only 4 ingredients!

For this basic recipe you’ll need a cup of fresh-squeezed lemon juice, which is about 5-6 lemons. I used the gorgeous Martha Stewart marble and wood cutting board (from the January 2017 Box) and one of my new favorite knives from our latest Bistro Chic box to slice each lemon in half. I also sliced a couple thinner pieces for garnish.

A citrus reamer is your friend if you’re making lemonade. I scored this vintage glass reamer at a garage sale for $0.50! This type of reamer has a built in reservoir that will collect the juice, and the spout makes pouring into a measuring cup a piece of cake. There are also hand-held varieties of reamers, but make sure to use a strainer to collect any seeds while you juice. For the rest of the recipe, you’ll combine 2 cups of water and 1/4th cup of sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. You can adjust the ratio of water and sugar depending on your preference. Add your cup of fresh-squeezed juice to the sugar and water mixture and serve over ice.

I’m having my lemonade outside and used the True Squeeze silicone cups from the Bistro Chic Box for serving. These cups are great for outdoors! I don’t have to worry about glass breaking, and the silicone is very slip-resistant when carrying on a tray.

I filled both cups with ice cubes and poured my lemonade on top. The extra lemon slices are for garnish and paper straws add a fun pop of color! This recipe was enough to fill these 2 glasses, with enough for refills. Sunshine in a Cup - 1 Cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice (5-6 lemons) - 2 Cups water - ¼ Cup sugar - Ice cubes Combine 2 Cups water with ¼ cup sugar. Add 1 cups fresh lemon juice. Serve over ice. For even more fun, try adding fresh fruit, herbs, or berries. Or mix with iced tea for an Arnold Palmer! Keep bugs out of your cup by placing a cupcake liner upside-down over the top of the cup, and poking a hole for your straw!
