Red, White, and Blueberries
The 4th of July is tomorrow and I know lots of you are gearing up for cookouts, fireworks, and fun! I have a couple fun (and kid friendly) ideas to make your 4th a little more colorful! It’s berry season, and some of my favorites are also color coordinated for 4th of July festivities. Big, beautiful raspberries and tart blueberries are readily available right now and are a healthy snack that kids (and adults) love. This easy snack takes only about 15 minutes to make, and only requires 3 ingredients!
Patriotic Berry Kabobs
Ingredients:
- 1 Container of Raspberries
- 1 Container of Blueberries
- 1 Bag of White Chocolate Chips
Tools:
- Kabob Skewers
- Baking Sheet
- Microwavable Bowl
Prep time: 5 minutes
Assembly time: 10 minutes

Make sure you wash your berries thoroughly, but be careful with the raspberries, if they’re too ripe they can fall apart. Separate each type of berry in its own bowl (you can also use strawberries, but you may want to cut them into bite-sized pieces).

For our berry kabobs, you’ll also need skewers, metal or wood work just fine. Alternate berries in whichever order pleases you, filling the skewers with enough room left over to hold onto the bottom. I like to start and end with a blueberry since they seem to stay on the skewer more snugly.

Take your finished berry kabobs and place them on a baking sheet (you can line with wax or parchment paper for easy clean-up). In a separate bowl, place a small amount of white chocolate baking chips (about a cup is fine for 5-10 kabobs). Heat the chips in the microwave at 10-15 second intervals, stirring in-between until they are completely melted.

Take a fork and dip it into the melted white chocolate. Coat the fork and then drizzle back and forth over your berry kabobs. Use as much or as little as you’d like. After you’ve drizzled the chocolate, pop the entire baking sheet into the fridge to quickly harden the chocolate.

Once the chocolate is hardened, remove and enjoy! A tasty red, white and blue treat!

To make your table even more festive, grab a pack of red, white, and blue utensils and make fun Americana napkin pockets.

For this easy craft, start with a decorative paper napkin. If the outside of the napkin is decorated, but the inside is plain, simply fold the napkin backwards to have the printed side on the inside. This is the side that will show once we are done.

Take the top corner of the napkin and pull it down to touch the bottom corner. Crease in the middle so it stays put.

Next you’ll flip the entire napkin over so the backside is facing you.

Take each side and fold it into the center, creasing the napkin so it stays (you can add a sticker to the back if you'd like something more secure).

Now flip your napkin over and viola! A handy pocket to fill with utensils, straws, or party favors!
